A driver of a semi crashed into John's Convenience in Brooklyn at 10:20 PM on September 14, 2010. Investigators have identified the driver as 42 year old Robert Yundel, and believe he may have had a heart attack which caused the crash. Three people are reported dead, one being the attended at the store. Three were severely injured, including decorated hero, retired Major Ted Dudds and are in intensive care. There were four other customers with varying degrees of injures.
Emergency response was there within two to five minutes of the incident, with Iron Man from the Avengers showing up for assistance just a few minutes later. The building was considered in danger of collapsing, and by entering through the back storage the rescuers and Iron Man was able to get all survivors out before the roof caved in.
Iron Man remained behind for a number of hours to help clear much of the debris and to retrieve the bodies of the three deceased customers and the deceased driver. When leaving the scene he commented, "When I signed up for the Avengers, I agreed to be more than just a glorified hero. I agreed to be there to assist the police when they needed help. Today, four people died and their still bodies will not leave my memories or the memories of the other rescuers here today anytime soon. Though we celebrate for the survivors, we also grieve for those we lost today. Their families and friends have my condolences." He then flew off to an unknown location.
