Matthew (Matt) Murdock works for the office of Nelson & Murdock as a defense attorney. He and his partner and longtime friend Franklin "Foggy" Nelson, focus primarily on the downtrodden, taking clients that have hopeless odds against them to prove they are innocent. They have a reputation for taking the hard luck cases and winning despite the odds. Matt takes only those cases that protect and represent the innocent and primarily those 'common men' of limited means.
Daredevil or ol' Hornhead, is a defender of the innocent although sometimes seen as a vigilante. Clad in his devil-like suit, he strikes fear into those who do harm to those under his protection. He focuses on the Hell's Kitchen area of New York and guards against the typical gangs, thugs, drug dealers, murderers and usual criminals. He also goes head to head with various Super-villains as he guards the city. His fearless, no-holds-barred attitude has given him the reputation and the title of 'The Man Without Fear'.
Matt Murdock grew up in Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, raised by his single father Jack Murdock. Prizefighter, "Battling Jack" Murdock encouraged his son study, enforcing the idea that a better education would lead to greater opportunities. Wanting to be like his father, he trained in boxing and fighting in private while in public worked on his schoolwork. When he saved a man from an oncoming truck, young Matt was blinded by the radioactive substance that spilled from the cargo.
Though now unable to see, the radioactive exposure heightens his remaining senses beyond normal human ability. Despite the setback, he continues his education with the support of his father, going as far to graduate from Columbia University Law School. Before Matt's graduation, he attends his father's fight, a fight that Battling Jack was supposed to throw--orders of the Fixer, a crime boss of the day. Because Jack doesn't throw the fight, he is murdered. Having uncovered the fight tampering, Matt donned a costume made from his father's boxing robe and avenged his father's death as "Daredevil"! His father's killer secured and turned over to the police.
Shortly after graduation, he and his long time friend Franklin "Foggy" Nelson opened their law firm in Hell's Kitchen. Here he can protect the innocent through the law while also fight crime that extends beyond the law as Daredevil.
Charismatic: To use a clique phrase: Matt Murdock can sell ice to Eskimos. His. confidence and self assured nature makes him friends and opens a lot of doors. Sure, that smart-ass attitude and that know-it-all smirk can get under some thin skins, but mostly those skins are of the baddies. His generous nature and good-natured playfulness isn't just a veneer of goodness. This is a man with real heart.
Bold: Matt is a man of passion, he lives hard and takes the repercussions in the teeth if he must. He isn't one to shy away from anything. Standing up to the worst of the bad guys for the smallest person in need in a physical way behind a mask or in an emotional way in the court room before a jury. Unflinchingly, he takes life by the horns. In his work in the law firm, in his personal life and when he's in costume as Daredevil. He faces obstacles and any resulting pain without regret.
Loyal: If you are ever in trouble, Matt is the friend you want in your corner. He'll stick with you and have your back till the messy end. He'll even do the hard things that might be needed despite the cost and you might not understand why he's doing it until later when you see the bigger picture. It's a double-edged sort of loyalty that sometimes doesn't make sense at the time. It can also be a mis-directed sort of loyalty combined with his protective nature.
Prioritization deficiency: The lack of impulse control required to organize life. For example, while he always has the best interest of others at heart, Matt's impulsiveness tends to make his ability to turn up on time questionable at best. His best friend is getting married? Sure hope there's not a bank robbery going on. He has every desire to do the right thing, but when duty calls, it calls strong and he is not a man to look the other way for any reason (not even being best man in this example). He acts first and then takes care of the fallout later. This means his best friend sometimes has to cover for him in court or his girl has to miss out on a date. He pays the price for this in his inability to hold down a meaningful relationship and is fortunate that his friends understand (some less than others) his inability to make appointments/plans/weddings/court-dates.
