Title: New World Order: Metropolis News - Election 20**
Author: IC: G. Gordon Godfrey, Angela Chen, OOC: Tifa Lockhart
Article: G. Gordon Godfrey: "Hello Metropolis and the nation. Coming to you live from New York City, where I will be giving you the latest on the election results for the 20** Presidential Election, where many of the Kelly/Osborn supporters are waiting anxiously for the results. The lovely Angela Chen of Metropolis News will be broadcasting as well from a quaint little town called Smallville, Kansas, where Ross/Sullivan supporters are located. Normally we'd have someone covering the Suarez campaign results as well, but since we can barely remember his VP running mate's name, and the two big names are here, we'll leave rooting for the Democratic not-so-hopeful to other networks like MSNBC and NPR. I'm sure they could use the ratings."

Angela Chen: "Yes, Gordon, I have to tell you, the crowd is really excited here in Smallville, where both Pete Ross and Chloe Sullivan happened to grow up, and as you know, Kansas is where Ross was Senator until he was picked for the Veep nod. After what happened with Lex Luthor's impeachment ..."

Godfrey (interrupting): "A damned shame if you ask me... he had the economy booming for the first time in decades and unemployment at record lows and superhumans actually doing something beneficial FOR the government instead of acting like they're above the law and ..."

Angela Chen (pause): "Anyway... After what happened with President Luthor's impeachment, who could have imagined that his vice president would not only have come off of the scandals with his still squeaky clean image, but with record high polling. As you know, this election has been pretty harsh, with candidates slinging some rather harsh, sometimes unsubstantiated criticisms at each other."

Godfrey: "Well I don't know how unsubstantiated they are. Ross may have done a good job on the economy but it was largely riding on the economic success of President Luthor's already-existing policies, though his touchy feely stance on superhumans and mutants and aliens and the like do have me wondering if President Luthor merely had him as VP for his image rather than his competence."

Chen (plastered on smile): "Well regardless of who we want, it looks like it's going to be a close race. Currently we have the early exit polls in from 5 states, and it's neck and neck between Ross and Kelly - the debates didn't seem to have a clear winner on either side which would affect the polling, though I'm sure our viewers have been swamped with political ads, especially since some traditionally democratic states like New York and California have been heavily leaning towards Ross instead of Suarez. Hawaii and New Mexico are currently the only states firmly in the Democrat's hands."

Godfrey: "I for one am not so sure that there might not be some hanky panky going on with the poll results. Kelly's strong stand against the alien and mutant and metahuman problem has had several cases of voter intimidation - largely by certain mutant groups. Not the least of which includes an assassination attempt on Senator Kelly himself. Of course 'Superman' the perfect angel that he is, would never be sullied down to be involved in stuff like that. Though why would he need to when he can hear what you're saying from space, right?"

Chen: (currently rubbing the bridge of her nose until she realizes the cameras are on her): "Er... Oh so... let's just look at the updated results. Georgia is going to Kelly, Florida to Kelly too. New Hampshire is clearly Ross, as well as... Indiana.... Kansas (big cheer in the background) ... yep, they love a hometown boy done good down here. Oh and he the pollsters have just reported that Ross also firmly has Ohio." She pauses. "Wow, they figured that out rather early, usually Ohio comes in much later."

Godfrey: "Suspicious? Maybe. Maybe Wonder Woman is hog-tying officials with that mind controlling lasso of hers, who knows. Anyway Angela, during this election there's been much said about three primary issues. Terrorism from groups like AIM and HYDRA, the economy, and the metahuman/mutant/alien problem. At least from what we've seen in the debates and the commercials. Unsurprisingly, mutant activists have largely acted with violence towards the Kelly campaign, but surprisingly there hasn't been the huge surge that was expected for mutants for the Ross campaign. I guess they only know how to make decisions based on a mob violence mentality instead of doing something more pos-"

Chen (cutting in): "And of course the 'merging of universes' which happened in the past year which has brought a lot of changes to all the governments of the world, new countries popping up, new heroes, new villains, new government agencies."

Godfrey: "Ah... Texas has gone to Kelly. Oh ... wait.. it's back in undecided. Yes viewers, this is indeed an odd election. States where there are usually clear decisions are being undecided, while states that are usually on the fence are being staunchly for one side or another. And then there's Vermont, where the voters may have heatstroke or feel really sorry for Suarez."

Chen: "Oh... okay now they can firmly put Texas in the win column for... President Ross. That's a big one for him, he needed that. And.... yes he has California too. New York is still a toss-up - the recent assassination attempt on Kelly, coupled with that horrific killing in Central Park months ago - voters there seem to be getting firmly entrenched on both sides of the issues!"

Godfrey: "Yes, or they just don't want to be incinerated by an alien's eyes or have some mutant pull their hearts out and eat them ... they do that I hear."

Chen: (muttering) Lord help me... (notices cameras - plastered smile comes back on. And... looking at the board, so far Ross has 230 electoral votes, while Kelly has 175 and Suarez has ... 7. Who's his running mate again?"

Godfrey: "Does anyone even care? I mean, who the bloody hell is she anyway? A political wallflower if ever I've seen one. Suarez should have had Wonder Woman as his candidate instead. Doesn't matter that she's not even able to vote as she isn't a U.S. Citizen. Typical liberal mentality that it is, who would have noticed anyway? And while we're at it, how the hell is Superman an American citizen isn't he an alien too? His cousin is not, so how is he? I'll tell you how - voter fraud."

Chen: (chirpy happy voice) "Guess not! Ok... and the pollsters are claiming there's a narrow win for Ross in New York, with only 52 percent of the vote in. But if he has that then that gives him... another 29 electoral votes for a total of 259. Then all he needs is another 11 electoral votes and Ross will be the first Independent party President! This is a major loss for Kelly, losing his home state!"

Godfrey: "And Kelly has taken Iowa and Washington DC, as well as Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Every little bit counts though."

Chen: "Wait Gordon.... getting some results in... Ross has taken Maine.... Nevada...... and (pause) Okay Ross has taken North Carolina, for 15 electoral votes, in addition to the 6 from Nevada, 8 from Louisiana, and 4 from Maine, Ross has now FAR exceeded the 270 mark, even if New York switches back to Kelly, which it looks like it might! Yes, New York is now won by Kelly for sure. One second (holds her headset to her ear) Yes.. Ross just cemented Texas and ... yes they are calling the election for President Ross with 310 electoral votes total so far!"

Godfrey: "It's days like this that make me glad I'm not a Yank."
